Sometimes following them exact is what smooths out the process towards an end project. Other times, it is in the process of altering a pattern where the perfection happens. You can pattern a beloved article of clothing or its components, create straight from the paper patterns, or stir up the brew with your own unique imagination.

Roots + Tendrils - Wilderness Mobiles

Roots + Tendrils:

Wilderness Mobiles

Mobiles rely on balance and movement in order to achieve their artistic effect; they are composed of a number of elements interconnected with wires, strings, metal rods or a collection of unconventional objects. As such, they represent a form of a kinetic sculpture because, unlike traditional sculptures, they do not remain static, but are mobile, set in motion by air currents or even a slight touch. The superb design of each of its parts, as well as the construction as a whole, manages to achieve a kind of equilibrium that perhaps makes up the core of its magikal aesthetics.

Sacred items such as crystals, stones, beads, dried herbs, foraged nature, feathers, ancient symbols, etc. are often used in the construction of these structures. This concept is the focus of Wilderness Mobiles. Sometimes referred to as hanging talismans, the mobiles can be incorporated into healing sessions and rituals, or displayed in sacred spaces and home altars. Intention is the driving force of their formulation.

Join us for a workshop where you are able to spread out, draw on the intention, create the layout, choose the elements, and formulate your own wilderness mobile.

NOTE: The tools and materials are provided, however, if you have specific objects/elements that you desire to be included into your wilderness mobile then most certainly bring them with you.

Herbivore Anarchist Apothecary Meetup

Herbivore Anarchist Apothecary Meetup

Join us as we take a closer look with herbs, one simple at a time.  Many of us have grown away from plant speak since childhood.  It is here that can mark our initiation, the return, or even a widening of these allies.  We dedicate one herb to each meetup and have one rule, that there are no rules.  This is an informal gathering to share the stories, truths, and sensual dynamics about each herb such as:  herbal lore, medicinal properties, foraging regulations, preparations and recipes, toxicity, maybe even a spell or two.  We focus on the local plants, common plants, and simple weeds to our Pacific Northwest region.

Every level of interest is invited and uniquely important from the hedge witch to a green goddess, steward of the plant world to sustainable community activist, botanist and herbalist, gardener and nutritionist.

This particular meetup is dedicated to the wild violet.  Violets are virtuous, vivacious, and valuable.  Violets are unassuming but oh, so powerful.  Eat the flowers, drink the leaves.  Wild violet is also known as aunt viola, heart's-ease, johnny jump-up, and wild pansy.

Bring a notebook/sketchbook and join us!

There are herbal teas, scented water, and tiny morsels at hand for you.

This is a FREE event.

A Discussion on Non-Binary Modeling with Alf the Spidermonkey

Join us for a gathering of models and the photography/film/video community to address some of the basics about respectfully working with non-binary models. We begin with a question & answer session to warm up the room, then hear from our speaker about some details to think about, study creative wardrobe/posing techniques, add in a photo session, and hand off some takeaways of resources.

Do you want to broaden your portfolio reach?  Have you wanted to connect with a community that peaks your interest because of these possibilities?  Are you a non-binary model with something to learn and share?  Do you have an interest in this culture of modeling and wish for more community input?
If any of these questions are at the tip of your tongue, then this workshop is a safe place to venture for models, makeup artists, hair designers, brands, photographers, film and videographers.

About the speaker:
Alf Posen is a traveling, freelance model based out of Gainesville, Florida.  He has been modeling for three years and traveling part-time for the last two years.  Their other work is deeply rooted in cutting hair and making people feel good about their appearances.  Alf considers their self to be trans-masculine femme; a non-binary trans-boy who still presents relatively feminine and has not taken steps to make their body and presentation the way society pushes it to be.  Alf only started to accept their trans identity about a year and a half ago, after moving to Gainesville and meeting so many people that they related to in feelings about gender and the self.  Their modeling has helped them to accept the body that they were given and to create something beautiful with what they have.  Their experiences with other models, with photographers, and the world around them is quite different because of who they are.  During this workshop, they will be opening up to help us understand their world and guide us through adjusting our language to make the photography and modeling community more inclusive.
