Herbivore Anarchist Apothecary Meetup - Oatstraw
Join us as we take a closer look with herbs, one simple at a time. Many of us have grown away from plant speak since childhood. It is here that can mark our initiation, the return, or even a widening of these allies. We dedicate one herb to each meetup and have one rule, that there are no rules. This is an informal gathering to share the stories, truths, and sensual dynamics about each herb such as: herbal lore, medicinal properties, foraging regulations, preparations and recipes, toxicity, maybe even a spell or two. We focus on the local plants, common plants, and simple weeds to our Pacific Northwest region.
Every level of interest is invited and uniquely important from the hedge witch to a green goddess, steward of the plant world to sustainable community activist, botanist and herbalist, gardener and nutritionist.
This particular meetup is dedicated to the oatstraw. Oats also go by the name Avena sativa, sativa meaning cultivated. This cultivation indicates that this special plant has had a long history of use and appreciation as a food source. The entire plant is rich in minerals and trace nutrients such as silica, magnesium, phosphorus, chromium, iron, calcium, alkaloids, protein, the vitamin B complex, and vitamins A and C. Oatgrass stems, oat tops, and oat grains restore nervous system integrity, emotional flexibility, and sexual flow.
There will be herbal teas, scented water, and tiny morsels at hand for you.
